Anonymous CVs 'help tackle discrimination'Applicants for office jobs in the City of London could be required to submit anonymous CVs under new proposals.

According to the Ethnic Minority Advisory Group, taking a name off a CV would ensure that everyone who applies for a job is considered solely on the basis of their skills and experience.

Jeremy Cook, vice chairman of the group, said this would be a step forward and stop recruiters being influenced by an applicant's background and ethnicity, the Guardian reports.

The Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC) has backed this idea, partly because a growing number of firms are encouraging it already.

Tom Hadley, spokesman for the REC, said accepting anonymous CVs allows businesses to cover themselves in case a candidate claims they are a victim of discrimination.

Measures to tackle discrimination in the workplace have been included in the government's Equality Bill, which was passed by the House of Commons last month.
