Employers advised to consider flexible workinPeople looking for telesales jobs in London could soon be able to work flexibly if circumstances prevent them from getting to the office.

The UK has this week been hit by the worst snowstorms in three decades, with roads and rail networks being heavily disrupted.

As a result, many people have been unable to get to work, or travelled through dangerous conditions to avoid upsetting their boss.

The TUC has therefore called on employers to let staff who are able to do so work from home rather than struggle through treacherous conditions.

Brendan Barber, general secretary of the TUC, commented: "With the snow still falling and the cold and icy weather set to stay with us for a few days to come, we need a sensible approach to getting to work."

He added that bosses who do not embrace flexible working practices in extreme weather conditions could add to their problems by creating resentment among employees.

This backs up similar calls from the Forum of Private Business, which said the cost of employee absenteeism on one day of freezing conditions could be at least £230 million.
