Jobs market 'is picking up'People looking to get administration jobs in the City of London have been boosted by news of improving conditions in the jobs market.

According to research by KPMG and the Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC), the rate of growth in the number of appointments is now at its highest since 2007.

Meanwhile, figures showed that permanent staff salaries are also on the rise.

Kevin Green, chief executive of REC, said this shows that recovery in the British jobs market is accelerating.

"Employer confidence is increasing and vacancies are on the up," he commented.

However, Mr Green noted the jobs market is likely to remain extremely competitive over the next few months.

Bernard Brown, head of business services at KPMG, added that the figures are very encouraging.

He said this improvement in the jobs market needs to continue over the coming months in order to consolidate any recovery.

This comes after research by private equity firm Bowmark Capital found that many small business owners are hopeful that the economy will begin to pick up this year.
