People in their 40s or over should not be overlooked for jobs, a Yorkshire businessman has insisted.Tim Dugdill, head of Rylestone Management, said many people in this age group are falling victim to age discrimination from potential employers. This, he stated, is despite the fact that many have valuable skills that could enable a business to thrive. "You know you are skilled but all you hear is you are overqualified for jobs," he commented. Speaking to the Halifax Evening Courier, Mr Dugdill noted that older people are not as valued in the UK as they are in places such as America and Asia. He added that about eight in ten businesses in Britain do not employ anyone over the age of 60. The government is currently planning to implement a new raft of measures designed to clamp down on discrimination in the workplace. Deputy Labour leader Harriet Harman recently said she hopes the new Equality Bill will help create a more fair society in Britain.
