People who are 50-plus working in sales recruitment and business development could be in line to benefit from plans to scrap the retirement age.Labour deputy leader Harriet Harman outlined the proposals this week in an interview with the Daily Mail, a move that has been welcomed by pensions expert Ros Altmann. "What Harriet has said is something that we should have done a long time ago," she commented. Ms Altmann noted that people are no longer old at 60 or 65, which means existing working practices need to change. She suggested encouraging people in this age group to consider changing to a part-time job in order to acclimatise to working fewer hours. This, she said, would ensure that retirement is more of a process rather than an event. "We are throwing people on the scrap heap which is not good for them and not good for everyone else," Ms Altmann stated.
