People aged 40-plus who are seeking office jobs in London could feel more optimistic after the government expressed confidence in the economy.Chancellor of the exchequer Alistair Darling said developments in sectors such as retail and the automotive industry in December were very encouraging. Speaking to the Daily Record, he said he believes these recent improvements could represent a return to economic growth for the UK. This could potentially be good news for jobseekers, as growth could encourage more recruitment activity from businesses. "I am confident," Mr Darling commented. However, the chancellor said he is staying cautious, as the economy has had one of the biggest "shocks to the system" for a very long time. "It's not something that you can just pick yourself up from and walk away as if nothing has happened," he added. This backs up recent assertions from the National Institute of Economic and Social Research, which this week said evidence of a recovery is starting to emerge.
