More payroll and administration jobs may soon be available in London, after employers revealed they plan to take on more staff this year.A survey by the Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC) showed that one in five businesses intend to hire more permanent staff over the next 12 months. Roger Tweedy, director of research at the REC, described this as "positive news" for jobseekers. "This confirms the stabilisation of the labour market and which over time will result in better jobs figures," she commented. The REC survey also showed that one in three companies plan to take on new members of staff within the next three months. However, the organisation said the government needs to take steps to encourage job creation in Britain, such as avoiding employment legislation that could add to employers' costs. David Frost, director general of the British Chambers of Commerce, has made similar calls to policymakers, saying the cost of employing people must be brought down. He said this would show that future governments are serious about giving businesses the freedom to create jobs.
