Brown calls for more EU job creationBritons aged 40-plus who are seeking jobs in London could get more opportunities after the prime minister called on Europe to raise its level of ambition for employment.

According to Gordon Brown, members of the EU must agree on a coordinated strategy in order to stimulate economic growth and job creation across the continent.

This, he said, should include investment in more flexible labour markets, as well as more emphasis on cutting carbon emissions.

"At this critical point in Europe's history, we must now more than ever, raise our level of ambition for Europe's future growth and employment," he stated.

Mr Brown made the comments after his meeting with EU president Herman van Rompuy in Downing Street.

This coincides with the news that unemployment in the UK fell during the three months to November 2009 to 2.46 million.

David Kern, chief economist at the British Chambers of Commerce, said this could raise hopes that next week's GDP figures will show an increase in the UK's economic output.
