BCC: End of recession is good newsConsumers looking for work in sales recruitment and business development have been handed good news from the Office for National Statistics.

Official figures show that during the final quarter of 2009, the economy moved out of recession, expanding by 0.1 per cent.

The British Chambers of Commerce (BCC) has welcomed this development, hailing it as "good news".

However, it warned that the economy is not out of the woods just yet, which means businesses need to continue receiving support from the government.

David Kern, chief economist at the BCC, commented: "The main aim now must be to ensure that the modest recovery consolidates and slowly gathers momentum."

He urged the government and the Bank of England to improve access to finance and remove regulatory burdens for businesses, before adding that a double-dip recession has to be avoided "at all costs".

Meanwhile, the CBI has noted that the extent of the growth between October and December 2009 demonstrates how "fragile" the recovery is proving to be.
