Fluidity 'could return to jobs market'People aged 50-plus looking for office or administration jobs could be able to benefit from greater fluidity in the employment market.

According to the Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC), improving conditions in the jobs market have led to many people looking at pursuing new opportunities.

The organisation noted that during the recession, many employers opted not to replace staff who were moving on.

However, this has now changed, which means new job opportunities are opening up to people seeking a new challenge.

Tom Hadley, director of external affairs at the REC, commented: "A lot of employers and agencies are seeing more demands for staff.

"There is a more positive picture than there has been."

Indeed, he said "modest signs of recovery" and "genuine recruitment activity" can now be seen in the UK.

However, he acknowledged that the REC is not taking this situation for granted, as the recovery remains fragile.

Official figures released earlier this week showed that the UK has now moved out of recession, as economic output rose by 0.1 per cent in the final quarter of 2009.
