Rising optimism in the business sector could lead to more opportunities for people aged 50-plus to find jobs.A new study by PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) has found that 42 per cent of business leaders in the UK plan to recruit more staff over the next few months. This is likely to be fuelled by growing confidence in the economy, as nearly two-thirds of chief executives said they believe it will recover within the next 12 months. Figures showed that 46 per cent of bosses are very confident this year, up from 29 per cent in 2009. Ian Powell, chairman and senior partner at PwC, described the findings as "encouraging", as they show business leaders are preparing for an upturn. "Growth expectations have been severely impacted by the challenges of the financial and economic crisis and the fears of a protracted recession are beginning to recede," he commented. This echoes recent observations from the Recruitment and Employment Confederation, which said the UK jobs market is showing signs of picking up and has done for several months.
