People aged 40-plus who are applying for jobs could miss out if they did not attend one of Britain's top 20 universities.Campaign group Race for Opportunity believes many recruiters are overlooking applicants who did not attend certain higher education institutions. National campaign director Sandra Kerr has therefore urged employers to move with the times rather than be bound by outdated cultural views of universities. Speaking to Personnel Today, she warned that adopting such a narrow recruitment strategy could lead to them failing to snap up top talent. "Employers should place less importance on where someone studies," she commented. Ms Kerr said that while it is "fine" to focus on the top universities, it should not be at the complete exclusion of other institutions. According to a study by High Fliers Research, many employers in the City of London are already looking into attracting more graduates this year. The study also showed that lots of businesses have seen a surge in the number of people applying to their graduate programmes.
