More companies seeking new managers People searching for a 40-plus job in management may find demand for their skills is higher in 2010, the findings of a new report suggest.

A study conducted by Henley Business School discovered that recruiting new management talent and succession planning are likely to be key issues for companies as they come to terms with the slow emergence from recession.

Of the 2,500 businesses quizzed for the Corporate Learning Priorities Survey 2010, 11 per cent said attracting talent is a priority. In the 2009 edition of the report, only eight per cent named bringing in new staff as an important issue.

The latest study's findings also indicate that there will be opportunities for skilled workers to progress in their careers.

Succession planning is a concern for 18 per cent of businesses, while 27 per cent said that helping managers to develop specialist marketing skills is a priority.

A separate study by Acas suggested that people looking for a 40-plus job in management may need to develop new skills in the near future.

It explained that managers will be expected to show more leadership ability and engage with employees more than ever before as businesses look to recover after the recession.
