People looking for 40-plus jobs may be more attractive to employers if they have a university degree.According to the Association of Graduate Recruiters (AGR), degree level recruitment has not been too badly affected by the recent economic downturn. Indeed, figures from the group show that the drop in the number of graduate vacancies last year was far lower than had originally been predicted. Carl Gilleard, chief executive of AGR, said this suggests that the graduate employment market is starting to normalise and begin the process of recovery. As a result, he believes that by 2011, vacancy levels could increase for the first time since 2008. This development has been welcomed by higher education minister David Lammy, who said: "Employment rates for graduates continue to be higher than for those with lower qualifications." However, Mr Lammy added that while the jobs market is picking up, it has become far more competitive.
