Office jobs for workers with financial services companies increased last month as the UK emerged from the grips of recession.Data compiled by pre-employment screening provider Powerchex revealed that financial institutions, such as those in the City of London, increased their employment offers by 11 per cent year-on-year in January 2010. Some areas of the industry performed especially strongly, with office jobs and other positions with hedge funds and stock brokers surging by 109 per cent and 81 per cent respectively over the period. Powerchex warned that while the figures are welcome news for staff looking to find office jobs in the City of London, firms in the sector are wary of becoming overconfident. "We have seen signs that the economy is on the up but firms are still being very cautious as many believe any recovery we may have seen is very fragile," said the company's director Alexandra Kelly. Last month, Ms Kelly told Contractor UK that the financial services industry is set to be "huge" for IT contractors over the coming year.
