REC welcomes fall in unemploymentThe latest official government statistics on unemployment are likely to welcomed by those looking for forty-plus jobs.

Kevin Green, chief executive of the Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC), expressed his satisfaction at the news that the number of people who are out of work in the UK has fallen by 3,000, taking the total amount of jobless in the UK to around 2.46 million.

And he hit out at claims from the Trades Union Claims (TUC) that the figures make for "deceptively healthy" reading due to the high number of people taking up temporary positions through the lack of permanent vacancies available.

According to the TUC, 120,000 more people are now working in temporary roles, due to their inability to secure permanent work, than there were two years ago.

This claim was criticised by Mr Green, who suggested that those looking for forty-plus jobs who take up temporary roles can gain valuable skills and experience.

He added: "There is nothing 'deceptively healthy' about the fact that temporary work provides an important bridge back into employment."ADNFCR-3012-ID-19627231-ADNFCR
