People looking for 40-plus jobs may need to ensure they offer a range of skills as well as qualifications.According to Bob Athwal of energy firm npower, his company has seen a glut of applications from people with a 2:1 degree. As a result, it is applying stricter vetting procedures in order to pick out the most capable candidates. Speaking to Personnel Today, Mr Athwal said this would include looking at a person's IQ and emotional intelligence. He stated that this would "give us a better picture of a candidate than just an academic 2:1 degree". Mr Athwal added that he believes different methods of assessment will be adopted by more and more employers once one major company has opted to change its recruitment strategy. This comes after the Association of Graduate Recruiters said the graduate employment market is starting to normalise and begin the process of recovery.
