People looking for 50-plus jobs could be more tempting to recruiters if they can speak another language, an expert has suggested.Dr Lid King, the government's national director for languages, said the ability to speak in other tongues is now a required skill among many employers. As a result, he believes being multi or bilingual job applicants in the UK could have a strong edge over other candidates. "Languages are vital for the success of the UK economy," he commented. Speaking to Personnel Today, Dr King said that even if different languages are not necessary for the job, the skill itself can be enough to appeal to recruiters. "Just having a language on your CV could be the key to getting your foot in the door," he stated. This comes after Bob Athwal of energy firm npower revealed that employers are increasingly looking beyond academic qualifications and placing more emphasis on skills. Posted by James Strang
