Thousands of 35-plus jobs could be created if the government implements a reduction on VAT for construction industry work.According to the Cut the VAT coalition, if the tax was reduced to five per cent on the labour element of repair, maintenance and improvement work on residential properties, 24,000 new jobs could be created in the sector. People looking for 35-plus jobs in different industries could also be in line to benefit from the proposed reduction, with the campaign group forecasting that 31,000 other new positions would be made in the wider economy. Over the next ten years, the report said that an extra 81,500 new vacancies would be created across the UK, which could boost the employment opportunities of those searching for 35-plus jobs. Alex Hawes, the news editor at industry publication Construction News, expressed confidence that if the measure was implemented it would give a boost to the sector. But he added: "Whether or not it should be adopted is a very different political question." Posted by Daniel Frost
