Gender pay gap closes to 22%The gap in pay between men and women in office jobs has narrowed for both part-time and full-time workers.

According to the Office for National Statistics' Annual Survey of Hours and Earnings, the average hourly wage for women stood at £11.39, while men took home £12.97.

It means that the gender pay gap for staff in full-time office jobs and other employees now stands at 12.2 per cent, down from 12.6 per cent in 2008.

Women in part-time positions fared better in comparison to their male counterparts, with the negative pay difference narrowing to -2 per cent from -3.7 per cent over the same period.

And the gap for both part and full-time workers in office jobs combined dropped from 22.5 per cent in 2008 to 22 per cent.

Despite the good news, everywoman - which provides training and other support services for females in business - said more needs to be done.

Co-founder Karen Gill MBE said: "Although there has been a slight move towards improving this gap, in real terms this is negligible and there's still a way to go."
