The government has been urged to give sales management jobs recruitment a boost by not going ahead with its plans to increase National Insurance contributions (NICs).A number of organisations representing the interests of businesses and recruiters have teamed up to call for policymakers to free NICs, rather than imposing a one per cent increase on current levels. Among the groups which are supporting the campaign to stop the increase are the Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC), the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB), the British Retail Consortium and the British Chambers of Commerce. Each organisation warned the government that a hike in NICs would be tantamount to a tax on jobs. It means that people may find it easier to secure sales management jobs if the measure does not go ahead. Chief executive of the REC Kevin Green warned that increasing taxes on businesses could have a negative impact on the economic revival. He added: "2010 is witnessing the first stirrings of a recovery in the labour market with employers starting to feel more confident about recruiting." And John Wright, managing director of the FSB, said policymakers should instead be trying to make it easier for smaller firms to take on staff, such as people in sales management jobs.
