Women 'not saving for retirement'Women in 50-plus jobs could be putting their financial futures in jeopardy by not saving up for their retirement.

According to research by Defaqto, only 21 per cent of females are putting money aside for later life.

Figures showed that 78 per cent of women are planning to rely on a state pension, while 22 per cent will rely on their spouse's money.

Matt Ward, wealth management consultant at Defaqto, said the findings conclusively prove that a pensions gender gap does exist in Britain.

As a result, older women in the UK may be forced to stay in employment for longer if they wish to get by financially.

The warning comes after Rockingham Retirement stated that many women do not realise the importance of planning for their long-term future.

This was attributed partly to the fact that advertisements for pension schemes tend to be aimed at men.

Rockingham added that many females are ignoring the subject of pensions because they consider it boring.
