Many jobseekers in the UK, including those applying for 40-plus jobs, may demand stability and security from their next role.A survey by Towers Watson found that more than eight in ten workers consider job security an important issue. Nick Tatchell, a senior consultant at the professional services company, said this marks a change from the attitudes that were prevalent before the recession. "This puts paid to the concept of the free agent," he commented. Speaking to Personnel Today, Mr Tatchell noted that employees used to be very committed to an organisation for only a short period of time before looking to move on. However, the survey showed that today, people want stability and to work for a relatively small number of companies throughout their working lives. Indeed, more than one in three said they want to work for only one firm. This comes after research by the Recruitment and Employment Confederation found that most employers expect to either maintain or increase the size of their permanent workforce during 2010.
