Outlook for jobs market 'remains positive'People looking for 40-plus jobs in Britain have been advised that the long-term outlook for the jobs market remains positive.

According to research by the Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC), most employers in the UK are not expecting to make further job cuts in 2010.

Meanwhile, about one in five companies are planning to increase their staffing levels over the next few years.

The REC said this demonstrates that the outlook for Britain's employment market is favourable.

However, the organisation did note that factors such as uncertainty ahead of the upcoming general election are slightly denting employer confidence.

Roger Tweedy, director of research at the REC, said concerns over public expenditure have also made companies feel "cautious".

A general election is widely expected to be held on May 6th this year, six weeks after chancellor of the exchequer Alistair Darling's Budget announcement.

Mr Darling has already advised people not to expect "giveaways" from the government.
