People who are looking for 40-plus jobs have been handed welcome news by the government, which has said it will not cut back on support for jobs. This week, the Office for National Statistics reported that unemployment in the UK has fallen for the third month in succession. According to work and pension secretary Yvette Cooper, this is a very welcome development. However, she insisted that the government is remaining cautious and will therefore do more to support jobs and help the unemployed. "We're not out of the woods yet," she commented. Ms Cooper added that the latest unemployment figures show that the government's investment in jobs, education and training is making a "real difference". "Half a million fewer people are out of work than anticipated at the time of last year's Budget," she said. The British Chambers of Commerce has meanwhile urged the government not to impose extra costs on businesses in the near future, as this could hinder their ability to create jobs in the current climate.
