Jobseekers urged to highlight relevant experiPeople who are overqualified for their current role and are looking for more suitable 40-plus jobs have been advised to overhaul their CVs.

According to The Write Stuff, CVs typically display a person's employment history in reverse chronological order.

However, senior analyst Peter Panayotou said that if a person has had to take a job that does not reflect their skills and qualifications, they could ignore this convention.

He recommended that people applying for 40-plus jobs create two sections outlining their employment history in order to highlight the most suitable jobs.

"You can give priority to what is relevant and minimise what's not," he commented.

"Anything that is unrelated I put in a separate section."

Mr Panayotou said the relevant jobs could be categorised under a heading of Career History, while the remaining roles could be put under Other Employment.

This comes after the Recruitment and Employment Confederation said the long-term outlook for the UK jobs market remains positive.
