Jobseekers drawn to competitive salariesPeople may be tempted to apply for 50-plus jobs if a company offers a competitive salary, new research suggests.

According to the National Training Awards, more than three-quarters of Britons are drawn to possible job opportunities by a good rate of payment.

Nearly two in five respondents stated that a competitive salary helps them to feel valued by their employer.

Simon Bartley, chief executive of the National Training Awards, said: "The results really do justify the old adage 'money makes the world go round'."

However, he noted that the research did indicate that other factors can help employees feel motivated, happy and productive at work.

For instance, almost three-quarters said they feel valued if their boss is committed to staff training and learning.

Meanwhile, 27 per cent stated that an open and relaxed management style can help to motivate them in the workplace.

This comes after research by Towers Watson found that many workers plan to remain at the same company for a long time and consider job security a priority.
