The recovery of Britain's job market is gathering pace, according to a new report released today (April 7th).Report on Jobs, the monthly survey conducted by the Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC) and KPMG, has revealed that the number of workers in permanent employment in March increased at its highest level since October 1997. Part-time and short-term figures also quickened to their strongest rates for nearly three years and demand for temporary staff was at its highest since January 2008. The amount of permanent and temporary jobseekers increased more quickly than in February and recruitment agencies also reported a rise in availability of staff, as well as vacancies available to jobseekers increasing for the sixth month in succession in March. Kevin Green, chief executive at REC, said: "Permanent appointments increasing at the fastest pace for more than 12 years is the clearest sign yet of a revival in the UK jobs market." Staff salaries for permanent workers also rose again in March, following on from last month's announcement by the Office for National Statistics that public sector pay in the final quarter of 2009 had grown by 3.8 per cent.
