New research has found that 76 per cent of organisations are happier with the new and more flexible Advisory, Conciliatory and Arbitration Service (Acas) handbook than its predecessor. The 2010 IRS dispute resolution survey, published on XpertHR today (April 12th), shows that more than three quarters of the participating 197 organisations - which have a combined workforce of more than 400,000 - answered that the new code "makes it easier to handle individual grievances". Acas implemented the new code, a 45-point document that replaced the previous statutory procedures in order to reduce the number of grievance cases being dealt with formally, on April 6th 2009. Legislation such as tribunals being able to increase or decrease any awarded figure by 25 per cent have if the code has been breached proved popular with employers and, on average, each organisation surveyed has dealt with just four grievances formally. Of the total 4,192 grievances reported in the survey, ten per cent were dealt with without formal procedure. However, more than one quarter (26 per cent) of organisations have faced at least one employment tribunal over the last two years. Posted by Daniel Frost
