City vacancies 'at best level for nearly two Jobs vacancies in the City are at their highest level since August 2008 and rose by 21 per cent in March compared to February, according to a new report.

The latest Morgan McKinley London Employment Monitor shows that confidence in the jobs market in the City is continually improving and indicates that March 2010 saw a rise of 83 per cent in terms of new job vacancies in comparison to the same month one year earlier.

Financial services professionals entering the market seeking roles in the City rose by 2.4 per cent in March to 8,950, while the amount of professionals actively searching for jobs increased by a 22 per cent increase when compared to March 2009.

In further positive news, the average time taken for jobseekers to find a role decreased from 64 days in February to 60 in March and the average City salary rose by eight per cent to £55,689 over the course of the month.

Andrew Evans, managing director of Morgan McKinley's financial services division, said: "March was a very healthy month for City hiring with job volumes reflecting the increased confidence and momentum in the financial services market."
