Human Resources (HR) professionals are indifferent towards all three major election manifestos, according to a new report.Labour, the Conservatives and the Liberal Democrats all published their prospective policy documents earlier this week ahead of the May 6th general election. However, law firm Eversheds has found that, despite the inclusion of new employment law commitments in each manifesto, HR workers are largely unimpressed. The research suggests that retirement practices, dismissal rights and employment tribunal procedure are the most important reforms sought by HR professionals, with nearly one-third stating they want a simplification of the law and a reduction of existing rights. However, reducing employer penalties received little support. These figures are at odds with the three main parties' commitments, according to the report, while many HR staff remain frustrated at the lack of direct action on employment law while the parties instead focus on areas such as flexible working. Fiona Bolton, employment partner at Eversheds, said: "HR professionals are telling us that they want employment law to be simplified or scaled back. Yet such wishes are unlikely to be realised, at least in the short term, according to the manifestos published this week."
