Small businesses in the UK enjoyed their strongest collective turnover since October 2007 in the first quarter of 2010, according to new figures. Bibby Financial Services' latest business factors index released yesterday (April 20th) indicates that, despite a challenging start to the year, small businesses performed at a 29-month high during the first three months of 2010. The report, which is based on quantitative data and the opinions of bosses, also found that a quarter of small business leaders believe that a change in government would help accelerate the economic recovery, while a further 25 per cent think that loosening lending criteria would have the same effect. Meanwhile, nearly half (47 per cent) of bosses say that business conditions are beginning to stabilise after the recession and almost one-third expect the UK economy to have fully recovered by the end of this year. Edward Rimmer, chief executive of Bibby, said: "March's rise has brought about a sense of renewed optimism and it is encouraging to see so many firms feeling upbeat about an improvement in trading conditions over the course of 2010."
