Two independent polls released today (May 6th) have revealed that a Conservative victory in the general election would be the best result for occupational pensions. In an online survey conducted by Pension Insight, nearly half (49 per cent) of all pension managers and consultants backed David Cameron's party when asked the question 'which political party would be best for the pensions industry?' The Labour party came second in this survey with 21 per cent of the vote, while the Liberal Democrats accrued 15 per cent. The Conservatives also received the support of 40.9 per cent of professionals voting in a similar poll conducted by Shilling Communication. They were followed by Labour on 27.6 per cent and the Liberal Democrats on 21.6 per cent. According to both sets of research, the Conservatives proved popular due to their willingness to act tough on the deficit by making widespread cuts while also promising changes in pension saving schemes. Bob Campion, Pensions Insight editor, said: "It is clear that many of our readers believe the Conservatives have the best policies for occupational pensions, in particular the pledge to reverse the abolition of dividend tax credits."
