Hung parliament 'increases business anxiety'New research has found that nearly half of all British firms believe that their business will be negatively affected by the hung parliament.

Talks between the Conservatives and Liberal Democrats about the possibility of forming a coalition government are in progress after none of the major three political parties managed to secure the necessary 326-seat majority to take outright power in last Thursday's (May 6th) general election. It is the first time for 36 years that a general election has not yielded a conclusive result.

According to Travelex Global Business Payments, which released data on the topic last Friday, some 48 per cent of their clients were disappointed by the result as they are concerned about the perceived inevitable falling of the value of the pound.

Paddy Earnshaw, customer director at Travelex, said: "Unfortunately, we expect the pound to remain weak for the foreseeable future as political uncertainty has traditionally haunted all major currencies.

"Until the political outlook becomes clearer it is likely the pound will continue its downward trend."
