FSB welcomes Con-Lib coalitionThe Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) has today (May 12th) welcomed the new coalition government formed by the Conservatives and the Liberal Democrats.

Following last week's general election resulting in a hung parliament, David Cameron and Nick Clegg have been locked in negotiations over the details and necessary concessions needed to form a government after none of the three main political parties managed to secure an overall majority.

It was announced last night that the two parties had reached an agreement, leading to Mr Cameron formally being appointed prime minister after Gordon Brown's resignation, with Mr Clegg taking the role of his deputy.

This decision has been applauded by the FSB, which has said that the coalition has made compromises to attempt to safeguard British business as well as providing certainty for the stock markets.

John Walker, national chairman of the FSB, said: "We are pleased that negotiators have listened to the business community.

"A healthy increase in personal tax thresholds is something that FSB has been urging for some time. This will not only provide more disposable income for the lowest paid workers, but will also encourage businesses to take on more staff."
