| Older workers 'to be in-demand over next ten years' |

 A new report released yesterday (May 12th) shows that Britain's older workforce will grow by more than two million people in the next ten years.According to Friends Provident's Visions of Britain 2020 study, the number of employees aged 55 and above will increase from 5.14 million today to 7.16 million by 2020, meaning that graduates and younger generations will be forced into more innovative approaches in order to get jobs due to the increased level of competition. Due to a projected lack of outstanding skills and talent in the UK's job market by then, the report states that employers will favour applicants who have already been trained. Also, Friends Provident indicates that the recent recession has served to highlight the value of experience in the workplace, which will further drive up the demand for the 'grey workforce'. Trevor Matthews, chief executive officer of Friends Provident, said: "Our new report highlights significant challenges facing three key groups within the workforce of 2020. "For older employees, there will be more opportunities in the workplace than ever before while for others, finding the right opportunity will be a significant challenge." Posted by James Strang
