A new report released today (May 19th) suggests that older workers will become the most prized age group for all employers over the next ten years.According to the Visions of Britain 2020 study, conducted by Friends Provident and the Future Foundation, workers between the ages of 55 and 70 will be in a much stronger position in the job market than they are today as experience and knowledge will be the most valuable commodities searched-for among employers. Many 55 to 70-year-olds currently feel marginalised in the job sector as younger candidates are seen to be more desirable to employers, but it appears that inexperienced graduates will have to become more savvy and entrepreneurial than ever before in order to find work following the recession. By 2020, the report suggests that the number of older workers in the UK will have risen by over two million from the current level of 5.14 million and with two-thirds of respondents expecting a skills shortage, workers who have already been trained and have the necessary experience will be highly sought-after.
