New report outlines plans to combat unemploymentA new report unveiled today (May 27th) shows how the government is planning to implement a new programme to help ensure the nation's unemployed population get back to work as soon as possible.

In the State of the Nation document, work and pensions secretary Iain Duncan Smith outlines the coalition's proposals to reduce the number of unemployed people in the UK from its current level of around 2.5 million.

"We will create a work programme which will move towards a single scheme that will offer targeted, personalised help sooner rather than later," said the minister.

Mr Duncan Smith, who led the Conservative Party from September 2001 to October 2003, also outlined the government's determination to help employers provide a better standard of pension for all their staff.

Meanwhile, the cabinet member added that private firms will continue to be used in order to help provide the nation's unemployed population with routes back to work.
