Vince Cable to outline business growth plansBusiness secretary Vince Cable will outline how the government plans to aid UK businesses to grow in the post-recession era today (June 3rd).

During his first major speech as a member of the government, Mr Cable is expected to speak of cutting the amount spent on regulation annually, a figure which is estimated by the business department to total £19 billion every year after April 2011.

Mr Cable yesterday attacked the former Labour government for their excessive regulation policies, saying that its measures had stifled growth among companies as the country emerges from its economic downturn.

"The deluge of new regulations has been choking off enterprise for too long. We must move away from the view that the only way to solve problems is to regulate," he said.

The minister added that small and medium-sized enterprises will be afforded more generous lending from banks in order to help stimulate their expansion.

Last week, chancellor George Osborne announced that the Conservative-Liberal Democrat coalition intends to cut public sector spending by more than £6 billion over the next year.
