Expert: More training schemes needed for unemployedUnemployed people in Britain must be helped back into work through more training schemes, an expert has said.

According to Stephen Overell, associate director for The Work Foundation, there is a shortage of helpful training courses and schemes to assist people in finding the job that is right for them in the post-recession period.

A recent survey by chrysaliscourses.co.uk found that around 18 million people nationwide want to change their career path, while one-third feel unappreciated in their current job.

However, despite such figures, Mr Overell stated that the UK lags behind its fellow European nations in terms of spending money on helping citizens find a job appropriate to their talents and needs.

"People are doing the wrong sorts of jobs quite often. So there is also an element that people are not personally skilled for the right kinds of work," he said.

Mr Overell added that the dearth of training opportunities is a "perennial problem" in the UK and that he hopes the new coalition government will soon take steps to help eradicate this issue.
