Britain facing Britain is facing "enormous implications" as the government seeks to reduce the country's trade deficit, the prime minister (PM) said yesterday (June 7th).

During a speech given alongside the Treasury chief secretary Danny Alexander, David Cameron promised to make the process of cutting the amount of money owed by Britain "open, responsible and fair".

However, he warned that the government's measures would have an effect on every person in the UK and may still be felt for "perhaps decades to come" as the coalition seeks to drag the country out of its fiscal problems.

The government last month outlined plans to cut spending in the public sector by more than £6 billion before April 2011, a policy which will inevitably cause redundancies as businesses' budgets are slashed.

"How we deal with these things will affect our economy, our society - indeed our whole way of life," said Mr Cameron.

Meanwhile, chancellor George Osborne will today publish the framework of how the government plans to implement its 2010 emergency budget, which will be revealed on June 22nd.
