A new study released yesterday (June 7th) suggests that the coalition government must adopt a "radical new approach" to economic development in order to increase the country's private sector growth.According to the Centre for Cities report, the nation is in urgent need of an expanding private sector in order to aid its overall recovery in the post-recession period. However, it goes on to state that there are currently not enough job opportunities in the private arena to cushion the blow of the government's proposed £6.2 billion public spending cuts, which are to be implemented over the next year and are expected to result in thousands of job losses. The think-tank went on to suggest that several cities across the country, such as Burnley and Stoke, are no longer equipped to generate enough private sector jobs for the amount of people living there. "Globalisation and technological change have reshaped the geography of private sector growth in our economy," it said. Posted by James Strang
