An expert has said that working from home is not perfect for all employees in the wake of a recent report stating that home workers are often more productive than people who remain in an office. According to researchers from Brigham Young University - which analysed data from over 24,000 IBM employees worldwide - those who work remotely balance their work and family life better than office workers and are also able to do around two extra days of work every week through managing their time more effectively. However, Steve Huxham, chairman of the Recruitment Society, does not feel that this is necessarily so in all cases. "We shouldn't see home working as the ideal solution for everybody," he said. "It is part of the battery of tools for a flexible workforce and a flexible working environment, but it doesn't suit everybody." Mr Huxham added that he was unsurprised by the results of the survey as more businesses are now encouraging flexible working patterns, but maintained that successful home working cannot be implemented without effective training and policy development.
