The Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) has revealed that many companies across the UK are unwittingly running the risk of breaking the law during the World Cup.According to a recent FSB-ICM survey of more than 1,300 of the FSB's members, more than half - 51 per cent - of Britain's smaller businesses are planning to allow their staff the opportunity to watch important games on the month-long tournament in South Africa in the workplace. However, nearly one-third - 32 per cent - remain unaware that a TV license is required to watch the action live through streaming terrestrial channels on the internet. And with millions of workers planning to view games online during office hours, companies could be hit with a standard penalty fine of up to £1,000 if they are not covered. Mike Cherry, policy chairman for the FSB, said: "It is imperative that all those small firms that are going to let their staff watch the game are on the ball and ensure they are fully licensed." England's opening game of the competition is against the US in Rustenburg tomorrow (June 12th). Posted by Mary King
