New research released yesterday (June 10th) reveals that at least two million workers in Britain do not have an employment contract.According to a survey conducted by Which? Legal Service of 4,000 members of the public across the country, more than one-quarter - 26 per cent - of workers simply skim read their terms of employment and six per cent admitted to not studying their document at all. The research also found that three in ten workers receive contracts before they start a new job, with nine per cent not getting their official papers until they had been in the role for six months or more. Which? has warned that staff who are not aware of the provisions of their contract are potentially putting themselves at risk of "a shock in the future". Peter Vicary-Smith, chief executive of the company, said: "Always read your contract before signing it - dotting the Is and crossing the Ts could pay dividends in the long term." Meanwhile, a study released earlier this week by Kingston Smith W1 found that 98 per cent of employers in the UK now offer their staff increased benefits over and above their salaries.
