Study: Staff turnover affected by recessionData from a new survey released today (June 14th) shows that the staff turnover of more than half of Britain's businesses was affected by the global economic downturn.

According to the 2010 IRS study on employee costs and turnover rates, which was published by XpertHR, some 53 per cent of the 269 employers questioned felt that the recession impacted on the number of people joining and leaving their organisations in 2009.

Also, nearly two-thirds - 64.4 per cent - indicated that their internal voluntary resignation rate had fallen throughout the same period as workers did not want to give up jobs during the country's uncertain economic times. The national median rate of people leaving their jobs of their own volition fell by 1.4 per cent from 2008 to 8.6 per cent last year.

The report found that the private sector had the biggest level of voluntary resignations in the UK, while regionally, chosen unemployment was most common in London in 2009.

Meanwhile, a recent Cities for Centres study said that the government should prioritise private sector growth before beginning to make its planned £6.2 billion worth of cuts in the public sector over the next year.
