CIPD: Private sector pay schemes are a model exampleThe private sector is the ideal model for the public arena in terms of performance-related pay and bonuses, it has been claimed today (June 16th).

According to a Chartered Institute for Personnel and Development (CIPD) report entitled Coping with Less: Pay and Pensions in the Public Sector, the government's drive to reform the public sector can be aided by an adoption of certain techniques employed by its private counterpart throughout the recession.

Almost immediately after coming to power, the Conservative-Liberal Democrat alliance announced its intention to shed more than £6.2 billion from the country's public spending bill over the next year or so in a bid to make an instant impact on Britain's trade deficit.

Chancellor George Osborne is scheduled to announce the government's emergency budget next week (June 22nd) and the CIPD has said that it is essential for pay to be restrained in the public sector.

Meanwhile, a recent report by Centres for Cities indicated that prime minister David Cameron should prioritise regenerating the private sector before making such cuts to the public arena.
