A report released today (June 21st) outlines how Britain's labour market can maintain business growth and job creation in the aftermath of the global economic downturn.According to the Confederation of British Industry's (CBI) Making Britain the Place to Work study, flexibility in the UK's work market is a crucial factor behind the recovery of the country's economy as a whole, as it proved during the recession how effective it can be in minimising job losses. With the emergency budget - which is set to be announced tomorrow by chancellor George Osborne - likely to build on the government's pledge to cut more than £6.2 billion from the country's public spending bill over the course of the coming months, it seems that flexible working could again play a major role in limiting unemployment figures in small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). John Cridland, CBI director-general, said: "To position the UK for growth, any new employment legislation must pass a simple test of whether it will encourage job creation." Posted by James Strang
