An expert has said that the UK's job market may be helped by the growing tendency among companies to encourage their employees to work from home.According to a recent report by Frost & Sullivan, many firms around the country are now determined to adopt unified communications in order to save money in the wake of the global economic downturn. The study suggested that businesses are seeking ways in which to slash overhead costs and therefore want more of their staff to work from home so that their office's energy bills can be reduced. Hardware costs can also be cut by running communications primarily through the software of a converged network, the research added. Hugo Harber, director of convergence and network strategy at Star, remarked that this could encourage firms of all sizes - including small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) - to begin hiring again due to the cost-effectiveness of flexible working. "By providing integrated conferencing and collaboration tools you can reduce the need to travel and increase productivity," he said. Posted by Mary King
