Mark Prisk, the business and enterprise minister, has been working with small to medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to better understand how such operations work and what challenges they face.Possibly sat alongside PAs in central London and account managers elsewhere, Mr Prisk has been hired by DIY Kyoto as part of the Week in Small Business scheme brought in by the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills. The politician is now encouraging those involved in enterprise policy-making to participate in the programme over the next 12 months to help improve their understanding of issues facing less sizable corporations, while bringing the government and SMEs closer together. "This will enable us to capture ideas where government can remove barriers to enterprise and test policy assumptions with real businesses," he remarked. It comes after the Federation of Small Businesses called on the government to offer their assistance to minor companies ahead of the emergency Budget last week. Posted by James Strang
